METHOD OF TEFL

TEACHER VS NATIVE SPEAKER

Studying English in a country which not use it as a first language is not easy. If I have to choose to learn English to whom among teachers or native speakers, I will choose to study with the teachers. In this case, it must be understood that my aim to learn English is to be an English teacher, that's why, now I am studying at a university. The different goal will certainly influence the choice to learn to the teachers or native speakers. People who are often interact with foreign tourists and people who aspire to live abroad may choose native speakers to learn English because all they need is just able to speak fluently and easily understood.

A teacher must have an academic degree and requirements in teaching English or a graduate of a course having English as the major field of study in the academic years, and then this non-native speaker of English has the capability on delivering English lessons to the students to learn English.

A teacher must have been trained to teach English, and submit it to the disciples...
It is true that native speakers will teach the language well but again, the goal is not just to talk, but more complex than that. Learners should also learn about the scope of linguistics, how languages work and how they are different; different types of learning; emotions/attitude towards classes, teachers, activities, etc. So, the learners need a qualified English teachers who are able to react and respond appropriately to learners, decent knowledge and understanding of the features of the language (grammar, lexis, phonology, etc), good classroom management skills, uses a variety of teaching techniques, decent understanding of teaching methodology and theory and can use that to make better decisions.

Teachers who are not native speakers are usually weak in pronunciation, because it is still very influenced by their mother tongue. They need to work hard to create a natural learning environment. I'm not saying that all the teachers are good, or all native speakers are bad to learn English from. What I want to emphasize here is that teachers must have the qualities to teach and educate their students and understand the stages that must be passed by the students to learn a language.

The last thing that I want to say is that a person's success in learning a language is influenced by many factors; one of the most important factors is the willingness and hard work that comes inside his mind. The teacher’s quality still will not make a person success if there is no spirit of learning inside of him.
